Software Engineer @ Brio

About the role

We're looking for a Software Engineer to join our team. As an early hire, you participate in designing, building, and maintaining high-performance, scalable software solutions. You will work closely with our Lead Engineer and CTO. In this role, you will:

  • Design, develop, and maintain Fintech applications using PHP (Laravel).
  • Participate in the full lifecycle of feature development from designs to architecture, development planning, execution, testing and delivery.
  • Build user-friendly admin dashboards and workflows with Filament PHP to manage complex financial data.
  • Develop and optimize scalable APIs for seamless integrations with payment gateways, financial institutions, and other services.
  • Implement robust security measures to protect sensitive financial data and comply with industry standards like PCI DSS and SOC2.
  • Work on real-time data processing and reporting to deliver actionable financial insights.
  • Collaborate with the team to ensure systems are highly scalable and can handle large volumes of transactions.
  • Bring designs to life using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript with a focus on delivering exceptional user experiences.

You may be a good fit if you have:

  • Have a working experience of at least 2 years in software development.
  • Fluency in PHP with expertise in the Laravel framework.
  • Hands-on experience with Filament PHP, including building custom dashboards and plugins.
  • Proven knowledge of financial systems or working with banking APIs, or similar.
  • Expertise in API design for financial data, including authentication, rate-limiting, and scaling.
  • Strong understanding of web security standards, especially for financial applications (e.g., encryption, secure storage, and protection against injection attacks).
  • Proficiency in frontend technologies (HTML, CSS (Tailwind), JavaScript, and frameworks like Vue.js or React).
  • Understanding of AI/ML concepts and integration, and a constant curiosity in latest developments.
  • Background in queue and cache management systems (Redis/Horizon).
  • Strong debugging and problem-solving abilities.
  • Test-driven development practices and love writing tests.
  • Knowledge of database design (MySQL, PostgreSQL) for handling financial transactions and reports.
  • A proactive, problem-solving mindset with attention to detail.

It’s not essential, but you’ll stand out if you:

  • Have worked on other workflow automation and business process management systems, and/or Fintech products.
  • Have experience implementing regulatory compliance standards (e.g., SOC2, GDPR, PCI DSS, KYC/AML).
  • Are familiar with financial data formats like OFX, FIX, or ISO 20022.
  • Have experience with cloud-based solutions (AWS, Digital Ocean, Akamai) for scalability.
  • Have an understanding of the asset management industry.
