Deep Sky Labs is at the forefront of addressing one of the most pressing challenges of our time: climate change. As the world’s first carbon removal innovation and commercialization center, we are dedicated to developing and implementing Direct Air Capture (DAC) technologies that effectively remove excess carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere. Our facility, located in Innisfail, Alberta, serves as a demonstration facility that will evaluate various DAC technologies sourced from leading innovators across the globe. We are committed to embedding Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles and robust Workplace Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) practices into every aspect of our operations.
The ESG/HSE Manager will play a pivotal role in ensuring that Deep Sky Climate meets its sustainability, compliance, and operational excellence objectives. This includes leading the development and implementation of ESG strategies, managing WHS&E programs, and ensuring alignment with local and international regulatory standards. The ideal candidate will drive best practices in sustainability and safety while fostering a culture of responsibility, transparency, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement ESG strategies aligned with Deep Sky Climate’s vision and long-term goals.
- Establish and manage ESG reporting frameworks (e.g., TCFD, SASB, GRI) and prepare ESG performance reports for stakeholders.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with environmental and social regulations, including climate-related disclosure requirements.
- Lead initiatives to reduce the carbon footprint of operations, including energy efficiency, waste reduction, and sustainable procurement.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate ESG considerations into all project phases.
- Design and implement WHS&E management systems to ensure compliance with local, provincial, and federal regulations.
- Conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies for all project activities, particularly in high-risk operations.
- Monitor HSE performance metrics, including incidents, near misses, and safety observations, and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Conduct audits, inspections, and incident investigations to ensure the safety and well-being of employees and contractors.
- Develop and deliver training programs to promote a culture of safety and environmental stewardship.
- Identify and implement emerging trends and best practices in ESG and HSE to position Deep Sky Climate as an industry leader.
- Develop strategic partnerships with organizations and agencies to advance Deep Sky Climate’s sustainability and safety goals.
- Drive continuous improvement in WHS&E systems and ESG performance by analyzing data, setting benchmarks, and refining processes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related field.
- Certifications such as CRSP, CSP, ISO 14001, or LEED are highly desirable.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in ESG strategy implementation and HSE management, preferably in energy, industrial, or infrastructure sectors.
- Proven track record of developing and executing ESG initiatives with measurable impact.
- Strong knowledge of environmental regulations, sustainability metrics, and WHS&E best practices.
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and strategic planning abilities.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills for stakeholder engagement and training.
- Experience with regulatory compliance and HSE program management in Canada, particularly Alberta, is a strong asset.
- Familiarity with ESG frameworks such as TCFD, SASB, GRI, and WHS&E standards like ISO 45001.
