As the world’s first carbon removal innovation and commercialization center, we are dedicated to developing and implementing Direct Air Capture (DAC) technologies that effectively remove excess carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere. Our facility, located in Innisfail, Alberta, serves as a demonstration facility that will evaluate various DAC technologies sourced from leading innovators across the globe.
The Carbon Reporting Analyst, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring that Deep Sky Climate meets its compliance, reporting obligations and operational excellence objectives. This includes leading the development and implementation of MMV strategies, managing Carbon Registry programs, and ensuring alignment with local and international regulatory reporting requirements. The ideal candidate will drive best practices in compliance and detailed carbon management, while fostering a culture of responsibility, transparency, and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and lead MRV and LCA activities for pilots and commercial CDR projects, with a focus on planning, budgeting, and maintaining project timelines.
- Develop baseline data on soil, water, atmospheric, and reservoir conditions, ensuring comprehensive monitoring for integrity of end-to-end CDR operations.
- Ensuring that proper MRV considerations are met throughout the entire project value chain including transportation and sequestration, energy and technology, and capital projects development.
- Overseeing end to end management of CDR process
- Leading creation and development of any other documents required for verification.
- Assessing and implementing partnerships, 3rd party data hosting services, and other relevant tools.
- Being our in-house expert on all things MRV, registries, carbon accounting and reporting; and helping us drive the MRV space towards better practices.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of relevant MRV or carbon accounting development experience, preferably involving CDR or other carbon solutions; or relevant 5+ years of prior consulting, environmental services, or related experience.
- Degree in a relevant discipline, preferably engineering, environmental sciences, or general sciences. An advanced degree in a scientific field related to sustainability preferred but not required.
- Substantial knowledge of carbon registries, methodologies, and thought leadership related to MRV.
- A skillful relationship builder, networker, and dependable team member, capable of building strong commercial relationships with colleagues and partners at all levels.
- Scientifically oriented, comfortable communicating with scientists, and can interpret white papers and primary research - including GHG reporting scopes, LCA, and carbon methodologies.
- Collaborative and consultative, you listen to customers and colleagues and work with them to solve problems.
- Experience developing a new solution in a new domain or business is desirable.
- Excellent written, presentation, and empathetic communication capabilities.
- High proficiency with software and its utilization in an MRV or carbon accounting context.
- Solutions oriented and can find your way out of problems through creative thinking and iterative processes.
- Highly organized and can both design and execute a process. Enjoy strategic planning and hands-on execution.
