About the Company: Deep Sky is the world’s first technology-agnostic carbon removal project developer. As a commercial venture, we build carbon removal infrastructure projects and sell carbon credits to remove CO2 from the atmosphere.
We have strong fundamentals:
- Experts at complex market systems and finding product-market fit
- Proven success in scaling startups and operating sophisticated businesses
- Strong relationship with capital markets, government, and regional communities in Canada
- Well financed with >$100M in funding raised
We envision a future where:
-Tech-based carbon removal projects are the benchmark for premium durable and measurable carbon removal within a network of
mandatory and voluntary carbon credit markets
- The planet’s carbon equilibrium has been restored through both drastic emission reductions and large-scale carbon removal
- Carbon removal facilities are considered everyday infrastructure; appreciated for their vital service and light footprint
Deep Sky is at the forefront of combating climate change through innovative carbon removal technologies. Our mission is to develop and implement scalable solutions for direct air capture systems. Our first ambitious project, Deep Sky Alpha, is a pilot innovation and commercialization facility where we identify leading technology developers to partner and scale to commercial production. We are currently developing commercial scale projects with dedicated geologic storage in Quebec.
About the Role: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Electrical Design Engineer to lead the design and implementation of electrical systems for a large-scale, greenfield direct air capture (DAC) facility. The successful candidate will have a strong background in power distribution, high-voltage systems, grounding strategies, harmonic mitigation, and electrical utilities. Experience in EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) projects and/or working with electric utilities is essential.
This role involves end-to-end responsibility for electrical system design, including coordination with multidisciplinary teams, utility providers, and contractors, ensuring that the facility meets all safety, reliability, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Electrical Design & Documentation: Develop comprehensive electrical load lists based on process and mechanical equipment requirements. Prepare detailed electrical drawings, including single-line diagrams, wiring schematics, and panel layouts. Specify electrical components, including switchgear, transformers, generators, and motor control centers (MCCs).
  • Power Distribution & High-Voltage Systems: Design and implement power distribution networks, including low, medium, and high-voltage systems. Lead the design of substations and high-voltage switchyards, ensuring proper selection of transformers, breakers, and protective relays. Coordinate interconnection with the local utility, including negotiating grid connection agreements.
  • Grounding, Bonding, and Harmonic Mitigation: Develop grounding and bonding strategies to ensure safety and compliance with relevant standards (e.g., IEEE 80, NEC). Perform harmonic analysis and design appropriate filtering solutions to mitigate harmonic distortion in the power network.
  • Utility Coordination & Regulatory Compliance: Act as the primary liaison with electric utility companies to manage interconnection processes and ensure grid compatibility. Ensure designs comply with local, national, and international electrical codes and standards (e.g., IEEE, IEC, NFPA, NEC).
  • Project Management & EPC Collaboration: Collaborate with EPC teams to oversee the engineering, procurement, and construction phases of the project. Review vendor and contractor submittals for electrical equipment and systems to ensure compliance with project specifications. Provide technical support during construction, commissioning, and startup phases.
  • Power System Studies: Conduct power system studies, including load flow, short circuit, arc flash, and transient stability analyses. Use power analysis software (e.g., ETAP, SKM PowerTools, PowerFactory) to model and validate electrical designs.
  • Quality Assurance & Risk Mitigation: Establish quality control procedures to ensure all electrical installations meet project specifications and standards. Identify and mitigate risks related to electrical design, construction, and operations.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. Professional Engineer designation required. Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Minimum 5-10 years of experience in electrical design for large-scale industrial facilities.
  • Proven experience in EPC projects, preferably in energy, power utilities, or large industrial plants.
  • Experience working with electric utilities, including interconnection and regulatory processes.
  • Proficiency in power system analysis software (e.g., ETAP, SKM PowerTools, PowerFactory).
  • Strong knowledge of electrical codes and standards (e.g., IEEE, IEC, NFPA, NEC).
  • Expertise in high-voltage equipment and systems, including transformers, switchgear, and protective relays.
  • Familiarity with renewable energy systems and energy storage integration is a plus.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with renewable energy projects and sustainable energy systems.
  • Familiarity with SCADA systems and industrial automation.
  • Knowledge of construction safety standards (OSHA or equivalent).
