Join Our Mission:
Our data volume is doubling year-over-year - and so are the opportunities to unlock its value. From real-time vet-to-pet matching to e-commerce optimization to personalized pet health journeys, we're just scratching the surface. As an Analytics Engineer, you’ll be accountable for the pipelines and models that turn raw data into powerful decisions. You'll work at the intersection of engineering, analytics, and machine learning - designing resilient systems, enabling predictive insights, and helping every team at Vetster make smarter, faster, more impactful decisions.
Our data team is evolving rapidly, offering you the opportunity to work on major initiatives and contribute to the development of innovative data strategies that align with our mission to revolutionize pet healthcare.
Your Responsibilities:
- Model & Orchestrate Data — Build green-field dbt models (Postgres ➞ Redshift), establish automated tests, and manage CI workflows (GitHub Actions, Hevo).
- Engineer for Scale — Refactor and modularize legacy pipelines (SQL/Python), reduce costs, improve speed, and set best-in-class data-orchestration standards.
- Advance Predictive Analytics — Productionize modals (e.g. churn, LTV, propensity) ensuring scalability and reliability using industry standard tools (Python, scikit-learn, pandas).
- Enable Self-Serve Insights and Analytics — Craft curated Metabase dashboards (or Looker/PBI/Tableau) and empower teams with training to tell compelling stories.
- Champion Data Quality — Own pipeline monitoring, anomaly detection, and release checklists to ensure every downstream asset is trusted.
- Experimentation: Lead the design, execution, and analysis of experiments, including multivariate hypothesis testing. Work closely with cross-functional teams to identify and capitalize on opportunities for innovation.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Serve as a key connector between departments, ensuring that data-driven strategies align with broader company goals. Promote a collaborative approach to problem-solving and solution development.
- Event Data Management: Lead the scoping, implementation, and management of front-end web and app event data. Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure accurate and efficient deployment.
- Everyone gets their hands dirty here. Whether it’s wrangling data or jumping into a fire drill, we show up and ship.
What You Bring:
- Experience: 4+ years in analytics engineering, data engineering, or BI development, ideally in start-ups or other fast-moving environments.
- SQL & Python Proficiency: Expert SQL (window functions, CTEs, performance tuning) and production Python for data workflows (e.g., pandas, numpy, scikit-learn, pytest).
- ETL/ELT Expertise: Hands-on with dbt (from scratch), GitHub workflows, and modern ELT tooling (e.g., Hevo, Airbyte, Fivetran).
- Warehouse: Cloud warehouse chops—AWS Redshift preferred; Snowflake/BigQuery welcome. Comprehensive understanding of RDBMS concepts, including table structure, normalization, and cardinality.
- Data Visualization: Advanced proficiency in tools like Metabase, Power BI, Tableau, or Looker.
- Product Analytics: Familiarity with event analytics platforms (FullStory, Mixpanel, Amplitude) and BI tools (Metabase, Looker, Power BI, Tableau).
- Event Data Management: Extensive experience in managing first-party event data using tools like Google Tag Manager, Tealium, or Adobe Launch.
- Communication: Proficiency in translating complex analyses into valuable narratives for technical and non-technical audiences alike. Experience running discovery sessions, workshops, and scoping engagements.
Nice to have:
- Experience in pet health, telemedicine, or digital marketplaces.
- Familiarity with ML pipelines, feature stores (e.g., Feast), or real-time data streaming (Kafka/Kinesis).
- Contributions to open-source analytics projects.
